Chapter 6 - The Federal Arrest
The heavy boots of the federal agents echoed like thunder against the hardwood floor.
Judge Lawson stood up in shock, demanding to know the meaning of this extreme interruption.
The lead FBI agent did not even look at Barrett or Paige.
He walked straight to my table, grabbed my arms, and violently slapped heavy steel handcuffs onto my wrists.
"Loretta O'Connell, you are under arrest for international wire fraud and racketeering," the agent announced in a booming voice.
I stared at him in absolute, paralyzing disbelief.
Barrett had brilliantly framed me as the sole mastermind behind the illegal cartel accounts.
He had forged my signature on every single illegal wire transfer over the past three years.
Douglas Croft smiled a thin, evil smile and quickly addressed the bench.
"Your Honor, given that the mother is now a federal prisoner, we demand immediate and permanent sole custody of the children."
Judge Lawson looked completely horrified by the sudden turn of events.
She slammed her gavel down heavily on the sounding block.
"Permanent sole custody is immediately awarded to the father, Barrett O'Connell," she ruled.
Barrett laughed out loud and walked over to collect my crying, terrified sons.
The FBI agents forcefully dragged me backward out of the courtroom.
We entered the private courthouse elevator, and the doors slid firmly shut.
I closed my eyes and prepared myself to spend the rest of my life in a federal penitentiary.
Suddenly, I felt a strange movement near my wrists.

He reached into his heavy jacket and handed me a loaded Glock pistol.
