Chapter 3 - The Poisoned Bottle

The chaotic emergency room was a blur of bright lights and shouting doctors.

Nurses whisked Ethan away behind a set of heavy double doors leading to the neonatal intensive care unit.

I stood alone in the hallway, shivering in my bloody gown until a kind nurse handed me a warm blanket.

The veteran paramedic's terrifying question echoed repeatedly in my traumatized mind.

A tall pediatrician wearing blue scrubs eventually walked out of the intensive care unit and approached me.

He told me that Ethan was currently on a ventilator but his vital signs were finally stabilizing.

I let out a massive breath of relief and asked the doctor what had caused the respiratory failure.

The doctor handed me a printed toxicology report with a very grim look on his face.

He explained that Ethan's blood contained massive, highly lethal doses of adult sleeping pills.

My heart shattered into a million pieces as the horrifying realization hit me.

I remembered Theresa insisting on feeding Ethan his last formula bottle so I could rest my eyes.

She had intentionally crushed her prescription sleeping pills into his milk to keep him quiet for her vacation.

This was not just cruel negligence from an arrogant mother-in-law.

This was the deliberate, premeditated poisoning of a newborn baby.

I asked the doctor if I could use a secure hospital computer to contact the police.

He led me into an empty administrative office and closed the door behind me.

I logged into my encrypted cloud server and accessed my home security network.

I clicked on the video feed corresponding to the kitchen camera during the time of the feeding.

The entire video file from that specific hour had been manually deleted from the system.

Theresa thought she had covered her tracks perfectly.

She did not realize that a senior forensic analyst knows exactly how to retrieve deleted ghost data.
