Chapter 3 - The Secret Recording.

The police officer’s words felt like a devastating physical blow to my chest.
Ryan was twisting the narrative, using my self-defense as proof that I was an unstable and violent mother.
I unchained the door and stepped onto the porch, absolutely refusing to let them intimidate me.
"My husband slapped our seven-year-old daughter across the face," I told the officers firmly.
"I protected her, and then I threw him and his mistress out of my home."
The second officer sighed and crossed his arms over his heavy tactical vest.
"Ma'am, your husband has severe bruising, and Ms. Jessica has a concussion from you throwing her onto the floor," he said.
"Without video evidence, this is a domestic violence situation, and a judge has already signed the temporary order."
They demanded that I step aside and bring Sophie out to them immediately.
Tears of absolute desperation burned hot in my eyes.
I knew if Ryan took Sophie, he and Jessica would manipulate her and never let me see her again.
Just as the taller officer reached for his radio, a small voice called out from the hallway behind me.
"Wait," Sophie said, walking toward the door in her pajamas.
She was holding her pink iPad tightly against her chest.
"Daddy is a liar," my brave little girl told the police officers.
She held up the tablet and pressed the play button on the bright screen.
A crystal-clear audio recording began to play at maximum volume.
Sophie had been playing a voice-recording game on her tablet when she walked down the stairs last night.
The recording captured Jessica giggling, Sophie shouting about the cheating, and the unmistakable, sickening sound of Ryan slapping our child.
It even captured Ryan shouting his demand not to touch Jessica before the sounds of our struggle began.
The two police officers listened in completely stunned silence.
The taller officer took the iPad from Sophie's hands and replayed the audio.
His stern expression completely shifted to one of absolute disgust aimed at my husband.
"I am going to need to take this tablet as official evidence," the officer said gently.
He pulled out his radio and canceled the custody transfer, stating the judge had been completely lied to.
I hugged Sophie so tightly I thought my heart would burst with pride.
The officers left to issue a warrant for Ryan’s arrest regarding child endangerment and filing a false police report.
I thought we were finally safe.
Then, my phone rang with an urgent call from Sarah, my lawyer.
"I just pulled Ryan's private financial records," Sarah said, her voice shaking with panic.
"He didn't just drain your accounts, he took out a massive second mortgage on your house."

Before I could even process that horrific information, a sleek black SUV aggressively pulled into my driveway.
Four massive men in dark suits stepped out of the vehicle and walked straight toward my front door.
