Chapter 6 - The Breach

The heavy oak door of my bedroom vibrated as someone forcefully kicked it from the hallway.

I kept my hands steady, aiming the pistol precisely at the center of the dark wood.

The emergency red lighting bathed the room in a terrifying, bloody glow.

Nolan’s voice suddenly crackled loudly through the secure intercom system on the wall.

He ordered me to step away from the door and move into the reinforced panic room immediately.

I refused to hide like a frightened animal in my own home ever again.

The wooden door splintered and crashed inward, revealing two men in tactical gear armed with suppressed submachine guns.

I did not hesitate or wait for them to speak a single word.

I pulled the trigger twice, striking the first man directly in the shoulder and dropping him to the carpet.

The second man raised his weapon, but a massive shadow suddenly materialized right behind him.

Nolan drove a combat knife deeply into the gap of the second assassin's body armor.

The man collapsed silently to the floor, joining his bleeding partner.

Nolan kicked their weapons away and immediately secured the hallway with four Bellamy guards.

I walked over to the bleeding man I had shot and pressed the hot barrel of my gun against his forehead.

I demanded to know exactly how they had bypassed the most advanced security grid on the East Coast.

The assassin choked on a laugh and spat blood onto my expensive Persian rug.

He sneered and told me that no security system works when someone on the inside leaves the back door wide open.

I froze, exchanging a horrified, silent look with Nolan.

Nobody outside of my father’s inner circle had the access codes to the perimeter gates.

I demanded a name, pushing the gun harder against the man's skull.

He gasped for air and whispered that the hit had not been ordered by Reid or Marjorie Kessler.

He claimed they were hired directly by the head of the Bellamy corporate legal team.
