Chapter 3 - The Boston King

The Bellamy estate sat on a massive, heavily guarded peninsula overlooking the turbulent Atlantic Ocean.
It was a gothic fortress of stone and glass, surrounded by high walls and armed patrols.
I stepped out of the black SUV, wincing as the cold ocean breeze cut through my heavy cashmere coat.
The massive oak doors opened before I even reached the top of the stone steps.
My father, Warren Bellamy, stood in the grand foyer looking like a monarch preparing for battle.
He was a tall, imposing man with silver hair and eyes as cold and calculating as a winter storm.
He did not rush forward to hug me, nor did he offer any useless words of sympathy regarding my injuries.
Instead, he looked at my bruised face and my heavily bandaged torso with pure, unfiltered rage.
He calmly promised me that the Kessler family would be wiped from the face of the earth by the end of the week.
I told my father that I did not want them killed, because death was entirely too merciful for what they had done.
I wanted Reid to live a very long life knowing that he had absolutely nothing left.
Warren nodded approvingly, leading me into his massive private study lined with rare books and antique weapons.
He poured two glasses of aged scotch and handed one to me.
He told me that his intelligence team had already been digging deeply into Tessa Langley's background.
Tessa was not just a gold-digging socialite looking for a wealthy husband.
Her real name was Theresa Vance, and she was the daughter of a disgraced hedge fund manager who had committed suicide ten years ago.
The hedge fund manager had lost everything after attempting to cross the Kessler family in a real estate deal.
Tessa had not seduced Reid out of random lust; she had infiltrated his life to exact a decade-long revenge.
I stared at my father, realizing that I had just been collateral damage in Tessa's twisted game of vengeance.
My father’s encrypted desk phone suddenly rang, shattering the quiet tension in the room.
May you like
He answered it on speakerphone, allowing the desperate voice of Marjorie Kessler to echo through the study.
Marjorie begged Warren for mercy, offering to hand over Tessa immediately if he would just unfreeze their personal bank accounts.
