Chapter 1 - The Name Drop

Reid Kessler stared at me as if I had suddenly started speaking in a foreign language.
The name Warren Bellamy carried a weight in the corporate world that could crush entire cities.
Reid swallowed hard and instinctively took a step back from my hospital bed.
Tessa frowned, her perfectly manicured hands resting on her hips, clearly not understanding the terrifying power of the name I had just invoked.
Marjorie Kessler clutched her expensive pearl necklace, her eyes darting nervously toward the closed hospital door.
They had all spent four years believing I was a quiet, desperate nobody from a middle-class suburb.
They had absolutely no idea that I was the sole heiress to the Bellamy logistics and banking empire.
I kept my eyes locked on my husband as the silence in the room stretched into a suffocating eternity.
Less than twenty minutes later, the heavy wooden doors of my hospital room swung open with a violent crash.
Six men in tailored black suits stepped into the room, moving with military precision.
At the center of the formation was Nolan, my father’s chief of security, looking like a man ready to start a war.
Reid puffed out his chest and demanded to know who these men were and why they were invading his wife’s private room.
Nolan did not even look at Reid as he walked straight to the side of my bed.
He gently placed a secure, encrypted satellite phone onto the tray table in front of me.
Reid ordered his two massive bodyguards to physically remove Nolan from the room.
The first bodyguard reached for Nolan's shoulder, a mistake he would regret for the rest of his life.
Nolan moved with terrifying speed, gripping the man’s wrist and snapping his arm backward with a sickening crunch.
Tessa let out a high-pitched scream and hid behind Marjorie.
The second bodyguard immediately backed away, raising his hands in complete surrender.
Nolan turned to Reid, who was now trembling with pure terror.
Nolan calmly pulled a sleek black folder from his jacket and dropped it onto the torn pieces of the forty million dollar check.
He told Reid that the Kessler company bank accounts had just been frozen globally.
Reid frantically pulled out his phone to call his chief financial officer, but the screen was completely dead.

Nolan leaned close to my husband's ear and whispered a message that made my blood run cold.
He told Reid that Warren Bellamy did not accept buyouts, but he was very much looking forward to a hostile takeover of Reid's life.
