Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

Richard stumbled out of Jessica’s apartment, his entire world completely collapsing around him in mere minutes.
He drove wildly back to our marital estate, desperate to find the one person who could possibly save him.
He burst through the heavy oak doors of our mansion, screaming my name frantically down the long hallway.
I was sitting calmly in the formal dining room, slowly sipping a hot cup of chamomile tea.
Richard dropped to his knees beside my chair, begging me to find a legal loophole to destroy his brother.
He desperately reminded me that I was one of the most brilliant corporate lawyers in the entire state.
He pleaded with me to invalidate the share transfer so he could take back his beloved company and his dignity.
I took a slow, deliberate sip of my tea, savoring the absolute desperation in his shaking voice.
I looked down at the man who had publicly humiliated me and called me barren for nine agonizing years.
I gently reminded him that I had drafted that exact document precisely according to his own arrogant instructions.
He had wanted it absolutely ironclad so that no one could ever contest his legacy or take his wealth.
Richard’s pleading eyes instantly hardened into a mask of pure, vicious hatred as he realized my betrayal.
He jumped to his feet, violently threatening to divorce me and leave me completely penniless on the streets.
He promised to hire a team of ruthless attorneys to strip me of every single asset I currently owned.
I smiled softly, reached into my leather briefcase, and pulled out our original, signed prenuptial agreement.
I slid the heavy stack of papers across the polished mahogany table toward his trembling hands.
I told him to turn to page forty-two and strictly read the specific clause regarding marital infidelity.
Richard rapidly flipped through the pages, his eyes frantically scanning the dense, complicated legal jargon.
He arrogantly claimed that the infidelity clause only applied if he actually fathered an illegitimate child.
Since the medical exam proved he was sterile, he foolishly believed he was entirely safe from the financial penalty.

I tapped my manicured fingernail against a very tiny, easily overlooked paragraph buried at the bottom of the page.
The hidden clause clearly stated that if he publicly claimed another woman's child as his own while married, he immediately forfeited one hundred percent of his total net worth to me.
