Chapter 7 - The Sister's Redemption

I stood frozen in place as Lauren carefully stepped down from the industrial forklift.
The massive pile of twisted steel groaned slightly, but Mark was completely buried and not moving.
Lauren's hands were shaking violently as she kept her phone's camera pointed directly at the wreckage.
I thought she was going to turn on us next, but she simply dropped the phone and collapsed onto her knees.
"I am so sorry, Sarah, I had absolutely no idea he was planning to actually kill Harper," Lauren sobbed hysterically.
She explained that Mark had lied to her from the very beginning of this horrific scheme.
Mark promised Lauren that the almond extract was heavily diluted and would only cause a mild rash.
He told her it was just a prank to make me look like a hysterical mother during the birthday party.
Lauren only realized the truth when she saw Harper stop breathing and turn blue on the kitchen floor.
She had followed Brenda's tracker app and watched her mother crash the SUV on the highway.
When Lauren realized Mark was going to the warehouse to execute us, she decided she could not be a murderer.
David cautiously walked over to Lauren and helped her stand up from the dirty concrete floor.
"If the flash drive is destroyed, how are we ever going to prove Mark did this?" David asked in complete despair.
Lauren wiped her tear-stained face and reached into her jacket pocket with trembling fingers.
She pulled out a second, identical black USB flash drive and held it out toward me.
"When I stole the tablet from the kitchen, I backed up the files before Mark deleted the cloud server," Lauren explained.
She had kept a secret copy of the video as an insurance policy because she knew Mark was completely unhinged.
I grabbed the flash drive and hugged Lauren, completely forgiving her in that single moment of salvation.
We finally had the ironclad proof we needed to destroy Mark and clear my name entirely.
We tied Mark's unconscious body to a steel support pillar using heavy industrial shipping cables.
I knew we had to get this flash drive to the federal authorities before Mark's corrupt detective friends found us.
We ran out of the warehouse and stole Mark's expensive truck that was parked hidden in the alleyway.
I drove toward the sunrise, heading straight for the massive FBI headquarters in the center of the city.
We arrived at the towering federal building just as the morning commuter traffic began to fill the streets.
I ran through the heavily guarded front doors, clutching the flash drive tightly in my sweaty palm.
I demanded to speak to a senior agent regarding an attempted murder and massive insurance fraud conspiracy.
A tall, stern-looking woman in a sharp grey suit escorted us into a secure, soundproof interrogation room.
She plugged the flash drive into her secure terminal and watched the entire video without speaking a single word.
When the video finished, the federal agent picked up her desk phone and issued a massive arrest warrant for my husband.
I finally breathed a sigh of pure relief, believing the nightmare was officially coming to an end.

The agent hung up the phone, turned to look at me, and pulled a pair of steel handcuffs from her desk drawer.
"I am sorry, Sarah, but I am placing you under arrest for the murder of your mother-in-law," the agent stated coldly.
