Chapter 6 - The Suspended Nightmare

The wooden crate swayed violently in the freezing coastal wind, hanging precariously over the black water.
I could hear the faint, muffled sound of a baby crying coming from inside the suspended box.
"Bring the backpack here, Clara, or I order the crane operator to drop the cable," Chloe threatened.
My heart hammered violently against my ribs as I slowly walked toward the armed guards.
I knew my father's elite sniper team was currently setting up positions in the surrounding shadows.
I just needed to stall for a few more minutes to give them a perfectly clear shot.
"Liam promised you the world, but he was always just a lying coward," I said to Chloe, trying to distract her.
Chloe laughed and aggressively snatched the heavy backpack entirely out of my hands.
She unzipped the bag and quickly verified that the classified banking ledgers were inside.
"He was a useful idiot, and now you are both entirely disposable," Chloe sneered.
She raised a small radio to her lips and ordered the crane operator to release the heavy brake.
The gears of the crane shrieked loudly, and the wooden crate began to rapidly plummet toward the ocean.
I screamed in absolute terror and sprinted blindly toward the edge of the concrete dock.
Before the crate could hit the water, a massive, deafening gunshot echoed through the shipyard.
One of my father's snipers had successfully shot the crane's primary control panel, completely freezing the machinery.
The crate jerked to a terrifying halt, dangling just ten feet above the crashing waves.
The cartel guards immediately raised their automatic weapons and began firing wildly into the dark shipping containers.
Chaos erupted as my father's tactical team returned fire with absolute, deadly precision.
Chloe screamed in panic, dropping the backpack of ledgers and running desperately toward her armored SUV.
I completely ignored the flying bullets and climbed the rusty metal ladder of the broken crane.
My hands were bleeding as I frantically reached out to grab the heavy chains supporting the crate.
I violently kicked the wooden slats until the side of the box finally broke open.
I reached inside and pulled my screaming, terrified baby entirely into my protective arms.
I clutched Hailey tightly to my chest and carefully climbed down to the safety of the concrete dock.
My father rushed forward, covering us with his body as we ran toward our escape vehicle.
We had successfully saved my daughter, but the nightmare was far from over.

As we drove away, I looked in the rearview mirror and saw Liam standing in the road.
He was holding a heavy rocket launcher aimed directly at our fleeing car.
