Chapter 2 - The Stolen Sanctuary

The two massive men walked into the dining room with cold, indifferent expressions.

My father immediately jumped out of his chair to fiercely protect me.

One of the men simply shoved my elderly father backward, causing him to crash into the china cabinet.

"Get out of my house," Liam demanded, pointing directly toward the front door.

I held my ground, my heart pounding violently against my bruised ribs.

"This is my house too, Liam, and I am not leaving without my daughter," I fired back.

Liam laughed, a cruel and hollow sound that mirrored the terrible recording.

"You might want to check the property deed, sweetheart," he said smoothly.

"I had you sign the transfer documents when you were heavily medicated after your emergency surgery."

My stomach violently dropped as the horrifying memory flashed in my mind.

He had brought me a thick stack of hospital bills and insurance papers to sign while I was barely conscious.

I had signed away my entire legal rights to our marital home without even knowing it.

The security men grabbed my arms and began aggressively dragging me toward the front door.

I screamed for my baby, begging them to let me take Hailey with me.

Margaret stepped into the hallway, proudly holding my crying newborn daughter in her arms.

"She will be much better off with us, Clara," Margaret said with a wicked smile.

They literally threw me and my parents out into the freezing, pouring rain.

The heavy oak door slammed shut, completely locking me out of my own life.

My father rushed me to his car, promising we would hire the best lawyers in the entire city.

But when I finally managed to log into my bank account on my father's phone, my blood ran cold.

Not only was our joint life savings account completely empty.

Someone had fraudulently taken out three massive business loans entirely in my name.

I was suddenly completely homeless, separated from my baby, and half a million dollars in debt.

And then I received a text message from an unknown number on my father's phone.

It was a picture of my husband's mistress holding Hailey.

The caption beneath the photo simply read, "She calls me Mommy now."
