Chapter 4 - The Poisoned Coffee

The trial was delayed for three agonizing days while Eleanor remained in the hospital under observation.
I used the extra time to dig deeper into the offshore accounts Julian had tried to pin on me.
When court finally resumed on Thursday morning, the atmosphere was incredibly tense.
Eleanor was dramatically wheeled into the courtroom in a medical chair, looking pale but strangely triumphant.
Julian’s lawyer requested an emergency motion to introduce new medical evidence into the record.
He claimed that Eleanor had not suffered a spontaneous heart attack in the gallery.
He declared that someone had deliberately poisoned her morning coffee just before the trial began.
The lawyer produced a toxicology report showing dangerous traces of a prescription heart medication in her system.
I stared at the lawyer in absolute shock, wondering how low this family was willing to sink.
Julian stood up and pointed a shaking finger directly at my face.
He told the judge that the specific medication found in his mother’s blood was prescribed to me for my blood pressure.
He accused me of trying to murder his mother to prevent her from testifying about my abusive behavior.
The courtroom broke out into loud, frantic whispers as the horrific accusation hung in the air.
Judge Thorne looked at me with deep concern, warning me that this was now a potential criminal matter.
She asked if I had any explanation for how my specific medication ended up in Eleanor’s coffee cup.
I felt completely trapped, realizing they had orchestrated this entire medical emergency just to frame me for attempted murder.
Eleanor began to fake cry in her wheelchair, begging the judge to protect her from her violent daughter-in-law.
I looked down at my hands, desperately trying to find a logical way out of this impossible trap.
Suddenly, Noah stood up from his seat next to the child advocate.
His small voice cut through the heavy silence of the courtroom like a sharp knife.
"Grandma is lying, she put the pills in her own cup," Noah announced bravely.
Julian lunged forward to grab Noah, but the bailiff instantly stepped between them.
Judge Thorne leaned over her desk and gently asked Noah how he knew that information.
Noah pointed to the plastic thermos sitting on Julian’s legal table.
"Grandma told Daddy to pour the crushed pills into her thermos while we were waiting in the hallway," Noah explained.
Eleanor’s fake tears stopped immediately, and her face twisted into an ugly snarl.
She yelled that the boy was a pathological liar who had been brainwashed by his mother.
The judge ignored her outburst and ordered the bailiff to seize the plastic thermos from Julian’s table.
The bailiff opened the lid and confirmed there was a white, powdery residue stuck to the bottom of the container.
Julian realized his own son had just exposed his malicious conspiracy.

He turned toward Noah with a look of absolute, burning hatred in his eyes.
"You ungrateful little brat, you just ruined everything," Julian hissed venomously at his own child.
