Chapter 5 - The Corporate Trap

Mauricio stared at the legal document on the glass desk, completely paralyzed by the sheer weight of the betrayal.
His childhood home, the only valuable asset his late parents had ever left him, was now in the hands of a corporate shark.
Arturo Vargas leaned back in his expensive leather chair, lighting a thick cigar with a gold lighter.
The billionaire coldly explained that the restaurant property was the absolute center of his massive new luxury shopping mall project.
He had only given Camila the massive loan because he fully expected her small, pathetic restaurant to fail within the first month.
Once she defaulted on the impossible payments, Arturo would legally seize both the restaurant building and Mauricio's family home.
Mauricio slammed his fists on the desk, screaming that his wife's signature on the collateral documents had to be completely forged.
Arturo simply laughed, producing a video recording on his tablet that showed Camila willingly signing the documents in front of a notary.
The ruthless developer offered Mauricio a highly sinister, completely unexpected alternative to total financial ruin.
He promised to completely cancel the massive debt and return the family home if Mauricio successfully sabotaged his own wife's restaurant.
Arturo handed Mauricio a small, unmarked glass vial containing a highly potent, completely untraceable liquid chemical.
He ordered Mauricio to pour the chemical into La Esperanza's main food supply during their grand opening night.
The chemical would cause severe food poisoning, instantly destroying the restaurant's reputation and forcing the health department to shut it down forever.
Mauricio took the cold glass vial, his moral compass completely shattered by the impossible, agonizing choice laid out before him.
He could either poison innocent people and destroy his wife's lifelong dream, or completely lose everything he had ever owned.
He walked out of the towering corporate building like a hollow ghost, wandering the busy streets of León for hours.
When the sun finally set, he found himself standing in the dark alleyway directly behind the bustling kitchen of La Esperanza.
He watched through the back window as Camila passionately directed her kitchen staff, her face glowing with genuine, pure happiness.

He uncapped the glass vial, slowly reaching his trembling hand toward the massive, simmering pot of traditional stew resting near the open window.
Suddenly, a heavy, cold hand clamped down violently onto Mauricio's shoulder, violently pulling him entirely back into the deep shadows.
