Chapter 6 - The Broken Vault
"Drop the weapons immediately, Luka, or I will execute her father right here," David's voice echoed over the intercom system.
A large blast shield retracted from the wall, revealing an observation deck overlooking the main laboratory floor.
David was standing behind the thick, bulletproof glass, holding a heavy silver revolver pressed against an old man's head.
I gasped in overwhelming shock, tears flooding my eyes as I finally saw my father alive after ten agonizing years.
He looked incredibly frail, his hair entirely gray and his hands shackled heavily to a stainless steel chair.
"Maya, do not give him the child, no matter what happens to me!" my father screamed bravely through the intercom.
David struck my father brutally across the face with the pistol, causing him to collapse bleeding onto the desk.
"You have exactly thirty seconds to place the baby in the secure transfer airlock, Maya," David threatened coldly.
Luka did not lower his weapon, his dark eyes scanning the laboratory for any possible tactical advantage.
He shoved Chloe forcefully toward the heavy steel vault door she had pointed out earlier.
"Open the vault right now, or you die before he even pulls the trigger," Luka ordered the terrified scientist.
Chloe frantically typed a complex code into the biometric keypad, her hands shaking violently with pure adrenaline.
The massive steel door hissed open, revealing a heavily armored panic room filled with emergency medical supplies.
Luka grabbed my arm and threw me roughly inside the vault, tossing the heavy travel carrier safely in after me.
"Lock the door from the inside and do not open it until you hear my voice," Luka commanded fiercely.
I scrambled off the floor, watching in horror as Luka intentionally stepped back out into the main laboratory.
He slammed the vault door shut, locking himself outside with Chloe and the incoming swarm of heavily armed tactical guards.
I watched helplessly through the small, reinforced glass window of the vault door as an absolute massacre unfolded.
Luka moved like a terrifying shadow, using his rifle as a brutal bludgeoning weapon when he ran completely out of ammunition.

But David simply smiled from the observation deck and reached for a large red switch on the control console.
He was triggering the laboratory's emergency incineration protocol to burn Luka alive.
