Chapter 3 - The Fatal Serum
I stared at the impossible engraving, my mind completely unable to process the magnitude of this revelation.
"If my father is still alive, why did he let me marry a monster like David?" I demanded, tears streaming rapidly down my cheeks.
Luka swerved the heavy SUV onto a deserted industrial road on the very edge of the city limits.
"Your father has been held hostage in a subterranean laboratory by David's syndicate for the past five years," Luka explained grimly.
"He created a revolutionary genetic sequence called M-17, designed to completely reverse cellular degeneration and aging."
I looked down at my innocent, sleeping daughter, finally realizing why she was the target of a billionaire's private army.
"He hid the genetic sequence inside my DNA, and it passed directly to her," I whispered in absolute horror.
Luka nodded solemnly, pulling the vehicle into the dark garage of an abandoned, heavily fortified warehouse.
As soon as the heavy steel doors closed behind us, my cell phone began to ring loudly in my pocket.
The caller ID displayed David's personal cell phone number.
I looked at Luka, who gave me a firm nod, instructing me to answer the call on speakerphone.
"You really made a terrible mistake walking away with that tattooed thug, Maya," David's arrogant voice echoed through the car.
"I will go to the police and expose your entire illegal operation," I threatened bravely.
David laughed, a cold, hollow sound that made my skin crawl with absolute disgust.
"You will not go to the police, because you need me to save your daughter's life."
My heart plummeted violently into my stomach as I clutched the baby tighter.
"During your final trimester, I secretly injected her with a catalytic agent that will cause total organ failure within forty-eight hours."

"If you do not bring her back to the laboratory to extract the M-17 sequence, she will die a very painful death."
