Chapter 10 - The Reversal

Sarah walked down the center aisle of the courtroom, flanked by two heavily armed US Marshals.
She was bruised and terrified, but she held her chin high as she took the witness stand.
Derek stood up so violently that his chair crashed to the floor.
"Objection!" Derek's lawyer shouted. "This witness was not on the discovery list!"
"Overruled," Judge Harrison snapped, intrigued by the sudden chaos.
Under oath, Sarah described exactly how Derek had broken into her apartment, assaulted her, and destroyed her phone.
"But he didn't know that my photos automatically back up to a cloud server," Sarah revealed quietly.
Denise handed a tablet to the judge, displaying the crystal-clear video of Derek removing his mask inside the pharmacy.
The courtroom erupted in gasps.
The judge's face turned completely red with fury.
"Bailiff, arrest that man immediately," Judge Harrison commanded, pointing his gavel directly at Derek.
Derek tried to run, but three officers tackled him before he even reached the aisle, slapping heavy handcuffs on his wrists.
Patricia shrieked, trying to slip out the back door, but my father stood firmly in her way.
"You aren't going anywhere, Patricia," my father said calmly as police closed in on her.
By Tuesday afternoon, the nightmare was finally over.
The judge dismissed all charges against me, reinstated my pharmaceutical license, and granted me full, irrevocable custody of Lily.
The fraudulent loans were voided, and Derek’s offshore accounts were seized to repay the damages.
I stood in my own kitchen, watching Lily happily eat pancakes at the table.
My father sat across from me, sipping his coffee with a quiet, satisfied smile.
We had fought a monster, and we had won back our lives.
Later that evening, the local police returned Derek's confiscated personal effects to me, as I was technically still his legal spouse.
I dumped his black duffel bag onto the bed, planning to throw everything in the trash.
Among the gym clothes and cheap cologne, a heavy, unmarked bronze key fell onto the floor.
My cell phone suddenly rang with an unknown number.

"Mrs. Bennett, this is Special Agent Vance with the FBI," a serious voice said.
"We need you to tell us exactly what your husband locked inside the underground vault in Chicago."
