Chapter 2 - The Court Order

The lawyer marched toward the surgical table with absolute arrogance, ignoring the frantic medical emergency.
"I have an emergency injunction granting my client full custody of the infant immediately upon birth," the lawyer announced.
Sarah stepped directly in front of him, shoving him backward with both hands.
"Get out of here before I call the police," Sarah screamed at the intruder.
Dr. Evans did not even look up from the surgical field as she fought to save my baby.
"Security, remove this man from my operating room right now," Dr. Evans commanded with fierce authority.
Two large orderlies grabbed the lawyer by his expensive suit jacket and dragged him toward the exit.
"You cannot ignore a signed order from a judge," the lawyer yelled as the doors swung shut.
I focused all my remaining strength on the terrifying silence coming from the surgical drape.
"Come on, little one, breathe," Dr. Evans whispered, her voice tight with desperation.
A second later, a weak, beautiful cry echoed through the sterile room.
Tears streamed down my face as I heard the sound of my son taking his first breath.
The nurses quickly wrapped him in a warm blanket and rushed him to the neonatal intensive care unit.
"He is small, but he is a fighter," Dr. Evans told me with a reassuring smile.
The overwhelming relief crashed over me, followed immediately by the heavy darkness of the surgical anesthesia.
I drifted into unconsciousness, completely exhausted by the physical and emotional trauma of the day.
When I finally woke up, I was lying in a quiet recovery room with dim lighting.
Sarah was sitting in a chair beside my bed, holding my hand with a death grip.
"Where is my baby?" I asked, my voice raspy and weak.
Sarah forced a smile, but her eyes were filled with absolute terror.
"He is safe in the NICU, but there is a major problem," she hesitated.
She told me that Michael had stationed private security guards outside the nursery doors.
They were actively preventing anyone from visiting the baby, citing the fraudulent court order.
"He is trying to take my son out of the hospital," I realized, panic surging through my veins.
I tried to sit up, ignoring the burning agony of the fresh surgical incision across my abdomen.
Sarah gently pushed my shoulders down, begging me not to rip my stitches open.
"We cannot fight his guards with brute force, Emily," Sarah reasoned.
She pulled a printed copy of the court order from her purse and laid it on my lap.
I scanned the document, looking for any possible loophole to exploit.
My eyes landed on the signature of the judge who had authorized the emergency injunction.
It was Judge Thomas Miller, a man who famously owed his entire political career to my father-in-law's dark money.
They had completely rigged the legal system against me before I even arrived at the hospital.
"I am going to get my son back," I vowed, pushing the blankets aside.
I swung my numb legs over the edge of the bed, determined to face the monsters hunting my family.

Before my feet could touch the floor, the hospital's emergency fire alarm began to blare.
Thick, black smoke started pouring through the ventilation grates in the ceiling.
