Chapter 7 - Burning the Empire

The courtroom was packed with journalists. Eleanor sat looking smug, wearing Chanel, surrounded by five lawyers. Maya sat trembling, holding Harrison’s hand.

When the judge asked Harrison to take the stand to testify regarding his mother's petition for custody of the heirs to the Sterling enterprise, Harrison leaned into the microphone.

"Your Honor, there is no Sterling enterprise," Harrison said calmly.

Eleanor’s smile vanished. "What is he talking about?" she hissed to her lawyer.

"At 8:00 AM this morning, I legally dissolved my shares and transferred my entire controlling interest in Sterling Holdings to a blind charitable trust," Harrison announced. "I have vacated my trust fund. I have resigned as CEO. I am currently unemployed, and my net worth is exactly whatever is in my personal checking account."

The courtroom erupted into chaos. Eleanor shrieked, clutching her chest.

Harrison looked directly at the judge. "My mother is suing for custody of billionaire heirs. But my children are not heirs to anything anymore. They are just kids. So her petition is entirely baseless."
