Chapter 7 - The Trial Begins

The courtroom was packed. The prosecution laid out a damning case against Marcus and Chloe, but Marcus's lawyers were ruthless. They tore into Julian's credibility, painting him as a desperate gambling addict willing to lie to save himself.
They painted me as a scorned, hysterical woman.
When Chloe took the stand in her own defense, she played the victim perfectly. "I loved Marcus," she sobbed. "I didn't know he was planning to hurt Eleanor. I just thought we were visiting her to talk about the divorce."
Then, the prosecution called Detective Rayner to the stand.
He didn't just bring the audio. He brought financial records. Offshore accounts. Marcus had been siphoning money from Mom’s accounts for three years, using Chloe’s maiden name to hide the assets.

The judge banged his gavel, but the damage was done. The alliance between Marcus and Chloe was officially shattered.
