Chapter 9 - The Assault

The twenty-four-hour deadline burned in my mind as I prepared for the assault on Victor's compound.
Dante and Elena had secured the boys in a safe house far outside the city limits.
I had ordered them to stay hidden, refusing to let them participate in what was likely a suicide mission.
I geared up alone in a rented warehouse, loading magazines and checking my body armor.
Victor’s compound was a heavily fortified estate on the lakefront, guarded by a small army of cartel soldiers.
I knew a frontal assault was impossible, so I planned to enter through the water.
Under the cover of darkness, I navigated a small, silent motorboat across the freezing lake.
I slipped into the dark water, using scuba gear to approach the estate’s private dock completely undetected.
I emerged silently, taking out the two guards on the dock with suppressed shots before they could raise the alarm.
I moved through the shadows of the manicured gardens, avoiding the sweeping security cameras.
I infiltrated the main house through a basement utility entrance, relying on old blueprints I had acquired years ago.
The interior was heavily guarded, forcing me to use lethal force in close-quarters combat.
I moved with silent, brutal efficiency, leaving a trail of bodies in my wake as I searched for Victor.
I finally found him in a reinforced panic room on the top floor, surrounded by his elite bodyguards.
I breached the heavy doors with a specialized explosive, the blast disorienting the men inside.
I cleared the room quickly, my training taking over as I neutralized the threats.
Victor scrambled backward, clutching the silver briefcase containing the genetic material.
He raised a golden pistol, his hands shaking violently as he aimed it at my chest.
He screamed that I was insane for coming here alone and that the Senator would betray me anyway.
I didn't argue; I simply fired a single shot, disarming him instantly.
He collapsed, clutching his shattered hand, cursing my name.
I walked over and picked up the silver briefcase, securing the future of my sons.
I told Victor that the Moretti family always collected its debts.
I left him bleeding on the floor and made my way back to the extraction point at the dock.

The mission had been successful, and I finally had the leverage to save the boys.
But as I sped away in the motorboat, the secure phone the Senator gave me began to ring.
