Chapter 9 - The Mother of Monsters

Vanessa kicked the bedroom door so hard the wooden frame immediately began to splinter.
I grabbed the heavy metal bedside lamp and stood protectively in front of Chloe with my heart pounding.
With one final, brutal kick, the door flew open and crashed violently against the bedroom wall.
Vanessa stepped into the room holding a smoking, high-caliber pistol firmly in her right hand.
Her expensive designer dress was splattered with fresh blood that I desperately hoped did not belong to Julian.
She smiled wickedly and told me that Zachary was currently crying like a baby in his jail cell.
She happily explained that she had orchestrated this entire nightmare just to steal his entire fortune.
Vanessa wanted me dead because I was actually the only rightful heir to my late father's hidden estate.
I gasped loudly as she revealed that my supposedly dead, estranged father was actually Julian’s anonymous client.
He was an underground billionaire who had been secretly protecting me from the shadows for years.
Zachary only married me because he was secretly hoping to claim my massive inheritance if I mysteriously died.
Vanessa slowly raised her gun and aimed it directly at the center of my forehead.
She casually mentioned that Tristan was going to cleverly inherit everything once I was permanently out of the picture.
I tightened my grip on the heavy lamp and firmly prepared to fight to my very last breath for my daughter.
Just as Vanessa placed her manicured finger on the trigger, a loud gunshot echoed from the dark hallway.
Vanessa screamed in sheer agony and dropped her weapon as a bullet shattered her right shoulder.
She collapsed heavily to the floor, writhing in terrible pain and clutching her badly bleeding arm.
Julian stepped into the doorway with dark blood streaming down the left side of his face.
He looked at Vanessa with utter disgust and forcefully kicked her gun far out of her reach.
He lowered his weapon and calmly announced that the real police had finally arrived at the building.
Red and blue sirens began flashing brightly through the bedroom window as officers swarmed the entire block.
Vanessa glared at me with pure hatred and aggressively swore she would destroy me from inside her prison cell.
I looked down at her pathetic form and confidently replied that she was never getting out.

As the armed officers dragged her away, Julian turned to me with a very grim expression.
He handed me a sealed, folded document and quietly said my father wanted me to read it immediately.
