Chapter 2 - The Stolen Life

I stared at the foreclosure notices scattered across the wooden porch.

My name was signed perfectly in blue ink on every single page.

"What did you do, Graham?" I whispered, feeling the air leave my lungs.

Graham tried to reach for the papers, but I kicked them away from him.

"Elaine, please let me explain everything inside," he pleaded desperately.

Harper grabbed a paper from the ground and read it with wide eyes.

"He took out a second mortgage on our house six months ago," Harper announced.

Leo stood there, looking suddenly guilty about dropping the explosive evidence.

"My mother demanded a massive lump sum to keep quiet about me," Leo explained.

"So you bankrupted your real family to pay off your mistress?" I screamed at Graham.

Graham backed away, his face pale and covered in cold sweat.

"It wasn't just to keep her quiet about the affair," Graham stammered.

"Vanessa threatened to expose what I did at the company ten years ago," he added.

I knew Graham was the chief financial officer of a major tech firm.

We had lived a life of absolute luxury because of his sudden promotion a decade ago.

"What did you do to get that promotion, Dad?" Harper demanded fiercely.

Before Graham could answer, a sleek black sedan screeched to a halt in our driveway.

Two men in dark suits stepped out, completely ignoring the tension on the porch.

They flashed shiny silver badges that caught the dim porch light.

"Graham Miller, you are under arrest for corporate embezzlement," the first agent stated.

They aggressively shoved my husband against the brick wall and handcuffed him.

As they dragged him away, Graham looked back at me with absolute terror.

"Do not trust Leo," Graham screamed before the car door slammed shut.
