Chapter 1 - The Boy on the Porch

I opened the door and stopped cold.

Standing on our front porch was the young man from the university campus.

He looked exactly like a younger version of my husband.

His eyes darted nervously between Harper and me.

"Is Graham here?" he asked, his voice shaking slightly.

Before I could answer, Graham pushed past me and grabbed the boy's arm.

"I told you never to come to this house," Graham hissed.

The boy ripped his arm away with surprising strength.

"You stopped answering my calls, and I need the rest of the money," the boy demanded.

Harper stepped forward, her face pale with shock and anger.

"Who are you, and why is my dad paying your tuition?" she yelled.

The boy looked at Harper with a mixture of pity and confusion.

"Your dad?" he echoed, letting out a bitter, hollow laugh.

He reached into his backpack and pulled out a thick manila envelope.

"Graham isn't just paying my tuition," he said, tossing the envelope onto the porch floor.

The clasp broke open, spilling official court documents everywhere.

"I'm Leo, and Graham is my biological father," he stated clearly.

I felt the ground shift beneath my feet as my entire marriage shattered.

Graham buried his face in his hands, unable to deny the devastating truth.

But the real shock came when I looked down at the spilled papers.

The documents weren't just paternity tests.

They were foreclosure notices for our house, all signed with my forged signature.
