Chapter 7 - The Hidden Ledger

I handed the leather briefcase to the lead federal agent.
He thanked me for gathering the final pieces of the financial puzzle.
He explained that my forensic analysis of the property deed was the exact evidence they needed for a conviction.
They had known about the money laundering, but they could not prove the real estate fraud until I uncovered it.
Derek was already in handcuffs and screaming at Briana for betraying him.
Briana ignored him and walked over to give me a tight hug.
She apologized for not telling me the truth earlier.
She said the government strictly forbade her from warning me about the danger.
They needed Beatrice to make a reckless move, and attacking my house was her fatal mistake.
I forgave my sister and told her I was just glad we were both safe.
The agents began escorting Beatrice, Marcus, and Derek out of the ballroom.
The remaining guests were slowly allowed to leave the country club after giving their statements.
I felt a massive wave of relief wash over me.
The nightmare was finally ending.
I walked over to the table to grab my sparkling water.
I noticed a small silver key resting on the white tablecloth where Beatrice had been sitting.
I picked up the key and recognized the unique crest engraved on the metal.

It was the key to a safe deposit box at a private offshore bank.
My phone suddenly buzzed with a text message from an unknown international number.
