Chapter 8 - The Untouchable Teacher
Jake held up the secondary cassette recorder like it was a glowing treasure.
He explained that while he was pretending to organize the bookshelves during class, he had discreetly placed the second device on the shelf right behind her desk.
It had perfectly captured every vile word she said to me, including her confession about destroying my midterm exam.
We finally had the undeniable proof we needed to end her reign of terror.
The very next morning, Jake and I marched straight into the Principal's office, bypassing the useless guidance counselor entirely.
Principal Miller was a stern, serious man who had always commanded immense respect from the student body.
We sat in his office and played the cassette tape from start to finish.
The principal's face turned completely red as he listened to Mrs. Keller's abusive, arrogant rant.
When the tape ended, he took a deep breath and promised us that he would handle this grievous violation of school policy immediately.
He confiscated the cassette tape, assuring us that justice would be served swiftly and severely.
Jake and I left the office feeling like absolute heroes, completely convinced that our nightmare was finally over.
We waited anxiously for the rest of the week, expecting to see Mrs. Keller escorted out of the building by security.
Monday passed with no action, and Tuesday felt agonizingly completely normal.
By Wednesday, Mrs. Keller was still standing at the chalkboard, teaching algebra with her usual condescending smirk.
It became sickeningly clear that Principal Miller had decided to sweep the entire audio recording under the rug to protect the school's reputation.
We felt utterly betrayed by the very system that was supposed to protect us from abusers.
Our final shred of hope was obliterated during a mandatory school-wide assembly on Friday morning.
The entire student body was gathered in the gymnasium, restless and completely unaware of our secret war.
Principal Miller stepped up to the microphone, smiling broadly at the bleachers full of students.
He announced that due to exceptional dedication and outstanding parent reviews, a beloved staff member was being heavily promoted.
"It is my great honor to introduce your brand new Vice Principal for the upcoming academic year," he boomed enthusiastically over the speakers.

The crowd erupted into polite applause as Mrs. Keller confidently walked out onto the wooden gymnasium floor.
She found my face in the massive crowd, locked eyes with me, and delivered a cold, victorious wink.
