Chapter 2 - The Administration's Golden Child

Seeing Mrs. Keller hand over that test completely shattered my understanding of how our school operated.

I pressed my back against the cold corridor wall, my heart hammering wildly in my chest.

If she was openly supplying answers to privileged students, her pristine reputation was nothing but a carefully constructed lie.

I managed to slip away that evening without being detected.

The next morning, armed with this shocking new knowledge, I decided to take action.

I marched straight down to the guidance office to file a formal complaint with Mr. Harrison, our school counselor.

I sat in his plush leather chair and poured my heart out.

I told him about the relentless daily bullying, the agonizing humiliation, and the cruel jokes that made me hate waking up every morning.

I hesitated for a moment, debating whether I should mention the incident with the mayor's son.

Before I could bring up the cheating scandal, Mr. Harrison held up his hand to silence me.

He offered me a condescending smile that made my stomach churn.

"Mrs. Keller has a decade's tenure and receives top marks from parents every single year," he stated firmly.

He explained that she had the full, unquestioned backing of the school administrators.

"She is a favored teacher, and perhaps you are just being overly sensitive to her unique teaching style," he added.

I felt a hot wave of pure frustration wash over my face.

I desperately tried to argue, pointing out that calling a student brainless was not a teaching style.

Mr. Harrison sighed, picked up his telephone, and promised me he would handle the situation discreetly.

He assured me that my concerns would remain completely confidential.

Feeling a tiny spark of hope, I thanked him and walked out into the busy hallway.

That spark of hope was extinguished less than ten minutes later.

I was standing by my locker when the loudspeaker crackled to life, demanding my immediate presence back in the guidance office.

When I pushed open the door to Mr. Harrison's office, my blood ran absolutely cold.

Sitting in the chair right next to him, wearing a terrifyingly sweet smile, was Mrs. Keller.

She turned to me, her eyes dead and cold, and whispered, "I hear we have a little problem to discuss."
