Chapter 8 - The House of Glass

The rain poured down in heavy, violent sheets as I parked down the street.

I crept through the darkness, clutching the cold metal wrench tightly in my grip.

The massive windows of Denise’s luxury home glowed with warm, yellow light.

I knew Elliot was locked in the upstairs guest bedroom.

I did not care about the federal investigation or the money laundering case.

I only cared about getting my son out of that house alive.

I approached the back patio and swung the wrench with all my strength.

The glass shattered instantly, the loud crash echoing through the quiet neighborhood.

I stepped through the broken window, ignoring the sharp shards cutting my shoes.

"What was that?" Kara’s panicked voice echoed from the living room.

I marched directly into the hallway, my clothes dripping wet and my eyes filled with fury.

Denise dropped her wine glass when she saw me standing there.

"You are violating a court order!" Denise screamed, reaching for her phone.

Before she could dial the police, I swung the wrench and smashed the phone out of her hand.

"Where is he?" I demanded, my voice sounding like a feral animal.

Kara tried to run toward the kitchen, but the front door suddenly burst open.

Agent Vance and a heavily armed tactical team swarmed into the grand foyer.

"FBI, nobody move!" Vance roared over the sound of the storm.

Red laser sights painted the chests of my mother and sister.

I did not wait for the arrests to happen.

I sprinted up the sweeping staircase and kicked open the guest room door.

Elliot was huddled in the corner, shaking with absolute terror.

I dropped the wrench and scooped him into my arms, sobbing uncontrollably.

"I've got you, baby," I cried, holding him tighter than ever before.

We walked downstairs just as they slapped heavy steel handcuffs on Denise.

"You have no proof of anything!" Denise yelled at the agents.

Vance smiled coldly and held up a massive stack of banking records.

"We have everything, Denise," he replied.

The corrupt judge was already in federal custody, and their empire was crumbling.

Tomorrow, we would go back to court to finish this nightmare for good.
