Chapter 6 - The Broken Trust

Officer Davis kept his service weapon leveled directly at Jordan's chest.
"Step away from the computer, both of you," the officer commanded, his voice devoid of any warmth.
Jordan raised his hands slowly, stepping entirely in front of Claire to shield her from the gun.
"Davis, please, you know me, you know I wouldn't be running unless my life was in danger," Jordan pleaded.
The officer's expression softened for a fraction of a second, but his grip on the gun remained iron-clad.
"I got a dispatch call about two teenagers breaking into a home, and now I find you trespassing in a city building," Davis stated coldly.
Claire peeked out from behind Jordan, her eyes welling with frustrated tears.
"They are framing us because we have proof that Principal Vance and Mrs. Whitmore are stealing millions of dollars," Claire yelled.
Officer Davis hesitated, lowering his weapon just a couple of inches.
"What kind of proof?" he asked, glancing nervously toward the large glass windows of the library.
Claire pulled the micro SD card from her pocket and held it up for the officer to see.
"I have video evidence of extortion, and financial records proving a massive conspiracy," she explained quickly.
Davis holstered his weapon and walked cautiously toward the computer terminal.
"Show me," he demanded, crossing his arms over his Kevlar vest.
Claire quickly plugged a card reader into the computer and pulled up the video of Mrs. Whitmore.
The officer watched the footage in complete silence, his jaw clenching tighter with every passing second.
When the video ended, he let out a long, heavy sigh and rubbed his tired eyes.
"I knew the Chief was covering up something big, but I never imagined it involved the schools," Davis muttered.
He looked at the two terrified teenagers and nodded his head in decision.
"I am going to help you get this to the federal authorities," Davis promised, reaching for his police radio.
Before he could press the transmit button, the front doors of the library were violently kicked open.
Mrs. Whitmore marched into the building, flanked by three heavily armed men in tactical gear.
"Good job securing the suspects, Officer Davis, we will take it from here," she announced with a wicked grin.
Claire looked at Davis in absolute horror, realizing he had betrayed them all along.

Officer Davis slowly unclipped his radio, but instead of handing it over, he threw it forcefully at Mrs. Whitmore's face.
"Run to the server room!" Davis screamed, drawing his weapon and firing a warning shot at the ceiling.
