Chapter 1 - The Intercepted Feed

The late afternoon sun cast long, sinister shadows across the empty classroom.
Mrs. Whitmore checked the security camera herself.
She stared directly at the blinking green light that indicated the system was actively recording.
With a cold and calculated smirk, she reached up and pulled the plug.
The light died instantly, plunging the corner of the room into absolute technological darkness.
Only then did she walk to the front of the classroom and confront Jordan.
She slammed her manicured hands onto his wooden desk, trapping him in his seat.
She thought nobody outside the room could see what happened next.
But Claire was sitting right near the disconnected cable, completely hidden behind a massive stack of oversized geography textbooks.
Mrs. Whitmore had been so blindingly focused on intimidating Jordan that she had completely forgotten about the quiet girl serving detention in the back row.
What did Claire do while the teacher’s back was turned?
She did not panic, and she certainly did not run away.
Claire was the school's top computer science student, and she immediately recognized the specific model of the surveillance camera.
She knew this expensive model had a local diagnostic port located just beneath the power supply.
Moving with absolute silence, Claire pulled a braided data cable from her backpack.
She carefully reached up and plugged one end into the camera, connecting the other end directly to her sleek tablet.
Within seconds, a high-definition live feed of the classroom popped up on her screen.
She hit the record button just as Mrs. Whitmore leaned aggressively over Jordan's desk.
"You think you are so incredibly smart, don't you?" Mrs. Whitmore whispered venomously.
Jordan did not flinch, even as the teacher's sharp fingernails dug deeply into his shoulder.
"I know all about the altered scholarship grades," Jordan replied, his voice remarkably steady for a teenager.
Mrs. Whitmore laughed, a dark and terrifying sound that echoed off the chalkboards.
"Nobody is ever going to believe a kid from the poor side of town over a respected, tenured faculty member."
Claire watched the screen intently, ensuring the internal microphone was capturing every single word of the conversation.
She knew this secret footage was the only thing that could save her friend from being unjustly expelled.
"You will bring me the original flash drive tomorrow morning, or I will personally plant stolen test answers in your locker," the teacher threatened.
Claire gasped silently at the blatant and illegal extortion happening right in front of her.
She quickly tapped her screen to save the video file securely to a hidden, encrypted folder on her tablet.
With trembling hands, she pulled her data cable free from the camera and ducked her head back down behind the books.
But in her nervous haste, the metal tip of the cable tapped sharply against the metal leg of her desk.
The sound was incredibly quiet, but in the dead silence of the empty classroom, it rang out like a gunshot.

Mrs. Whitmore stopped speaking instantly and froze in place.
She slowly turned her head away from Jordan, her piercing eyes locking directly onto the stack of textbooks at the back of the room.
