Chapter 9 - The Federal Raid

The basement erupted into absolute chaos as the federal agents aggressively advanced into the room.
The syndicate mercenaries instantly realized they were completely outgunned and dropped their weapons to the floor.
Liam panicked, grabbing my mother by the arm and using her as a human shield against the advancing FBI agents.
"Stay back, or I swear I will kill her!" Liam screamed desperately, pressing his gun against my mother's temple.
My mother shrieked in absolute terror, begging her favorite son Jason to help her escape.
Jason, entirely true to his cowardly nature, threw his hands in the air and surrendered immediately to the closest agent.
"I had nothing to do with the murder plot, I just wanted the money!" Jason cried out pathetically.
Richard stepped forward, completely ignoring the gun Liam had pressed against Evelyn's head.
"You are completely surrounded, Liam, and your massive debt to the syndicate is the least of your problems now," Richard stated coldly.
Liam's hands shook violently, his handsome face covered in a thick, terrified layer of sweat.
I walked slowly out from behind Richard, staring directly into the eyes of the man who had promised to love me forever.
"You never loved me, Liam, but you are not a murderer," I said, my voice eerily calm despite the adrenaline coursing through my veins.
Liam looked at my ruined, muddy wedding dress, a brief flash of genuine remorse crossing his desperate features.
He slowly lowered the gun, completely defeated by the overwhelming reality of his failed, greedy scheme.
Two federal agents immediately tackled Liam to the concrete, securing his wrists in heavy iron handcuffs.
My mother collapsed to her knees, weeping hysterically as an agent read her Miranda rights for kidnapping, extortion, and grand fraud.
The lead FBI agent walked over to Richard, shaking his hand firmly in a display of deep, professional respect.
"Excellent work, Director, the trap worked perfectly," the federal agent announced loudly.
My jaw dropped completely open as I stared at the man claiming to be my biological father.
Richard was not just a wealthy businessman or a concerned parent trying to save his long-lost daughter.

He was the Director of a highly classified federal task force, and this entire wedding had been a meticulously planned sting operation.
"You used my wedding day as bait?" I asked, my voice trembling with a mixture of anger and profound betrayal.
