Chapter 8 - The Twenty-Fifth Birthday

Heavily armed mercenaries swarmed into the basement, their assault rifles aimed directly at our chests.
Liam walked down the stairs slowly, a wicked, triumphant smile plastered across his handsome face.
"You really thought you could hide a massive vault from us in your own basement?" Liam mocked arrogantly.
My mother and Jason followed closely behind him, their eyes widening greedily at the sight of the glittering gold bars.
"The twenty-fifth birthday trust fund is finally ours," my mother breathed, stepping past the armed guards.
Richard stood perfectly still, stepping protectively in front of me as the mercenaries closed in.
"You cannot legally touch a single cent of this trust, Evelyn," Richard warned her calmly.
My mother laughed harshly, waving the forged property transfer document directly in his face.
"I already own the house, Richard, which means everything inside it legally belongs to me now."
She reached into the vault and grabbed a thick, sealed envelope containing the original trust ownership papers.
"You lost the game, old man, so it is time to say goodbye to your precious daughter," Liam sneered, raising his gun.
He pointed the weapon directly at my heart, completely ready to murder his own bride for a pile of gold.
I closed my eyes, bracing for the loud gunshot that would finally end this terrifying nightmare.
"Drop the weapon right now, Liam!" a booming, unfamiliar voice commanded from the top of the basement stairs.
Liam spun around in pure shock, his weapon wavering nervously in the dim light.
Dozens of men wearing heavily armored tactical gear with bold yellow FBI letters swarmed down the narrow staircase.
They were not the corrupt local police officers Liam had paid off at the country club.
These were elite federal agents, and they immediately trained their laser sights on every single mercenary in the room.
My mother panicked completely, dropping the sealed trust envelope onto the dusty concrete floor.
"How did the federal authorities find us?" Jason yelled, dropping his own weapon in sheer terror.
May you like
Richard smiled a terrifying, predatory smile and casually adjusted his expensive suit jacket.
"Because I didn't just design this house, Jason, I also wired the entire basement with hidden federal surveillance cameras."
