Chapter 7 - The Floating Fortress

The icy wind whipped across the upper deck as the luxury yacht accelerated into the dark waters.

Mitchell groaned in pain, clutching his bruised ribs as he fought off the mercenary on the lower deck.

He managed to grab a fire extinguisher from the wall and smashed it into the guard's helmet.

The mercenary slumped to the deck, unconscious and no longer a threat.

Mitchell quickly retrieved his dropped rifle and checked the remaining ammunition.

He knew he only had a few minutes before the yacht reached international waters.

Above him, Elena was slowly crawling up the spiral staircase toward the captain's deck.

She could hear Chloe sobbing uncontrollably as David yelled frantic orders to the pilot.

David demanded that the captain push the engines to their absolute maximum speed.

Elena tightened her grip on the stolen combat knife, her heart pounding with fierce adrenaline.

She peeked over the edge of the top step and saw her evil husband holding their daughter hostage.

David was distracted, shouting into a satellite phone about an incoming Coast Guard vessel.

Sarah had managed to alert the federal authorities before she started sniping from the crane.

Elena knew this was her only chance to save her little girl from a monster.

She sprang from the staircase and charged directly at the man who had ruined her life.

David turned around just in time to see his wife lunging at him with lethal intent.

He raised his silver pistol, but Elena slashed the knife across his forearm before he could fire.

David screamed in agony, dropping the gun as blood soaked his expensive designer coat.

He let go of Chloe, and the little girl immediately scrambled behind a leather deck sofa.

David furiously backhanded Elena across the face, sending her crashing into the glass railing.

He was much stronger than her, fueled by a lifetime of unchecked arrogance and cruelty.

He pinned her to the deck, wrapping his heavy hands around her fragile throat.

He sneered that she was always too weak to survive in his cutthroat world.

Elena gasped for air, her vision blurring at the edges as she struggled to break his iron grip.

Before she blacked out completely, Mitchell burst onto the upper deck with his rifle raised.

He ordered David to step away from the woman and put his hands in the air.

David laughed wildly, pulling a small electronic detonator from his pocket.

He revealed that the entire yacht was wired with enough C4 explosives to vaporize the hull.

If Mitchell pulled the trigger, David's thumb would slip and blow them all to pieces.

Mitchell froze in place, unable to risk the lives of the innocent mother and child.

David smiled triumphantly and slowly moved his thumb toward the red button.
