Chapter 4 - The Highway Chase

The stolen foster care van tore down the desolate Texas highway at dangerous speeds.
Sarah pushed her heavily modified SUV to its absolute limits to catch up.
Warden Mitchell gripped the dashboard as the speedometer crossed one hundred miles per hour.
He checked the loaded magazine of the spare pistol Sarah had handed him.
The blinking red dot on the encrypted tablet showed they were closing the gap.
Up ahead, the taillights of the white van swerved recklessly through the sparse midnight traffic.
Mitchell knew they had to stop the vehicle before it reached the private airfield on the county line.
If David managed to load Chloe onto a plane, they would never see her again.
Sarah forcefully rammed the front bumper of her SUV into the back of the speeding van.
Sparks flew violently across the dark asphalt as metal ground against metal.
The back doors of the van suddenly swung open.
A masked mercenary leaned out with a submachine gun and unleashed a hail of bullets.
The windshield of the SUV shattered into a thousand spiderweb patterns.
Mitchell leaned out the passenger window and returned fire with deadly precision.
His third shot blew out the van's rear left tire with a loud pop.
The driver completely lost control of the heavy vehicle.
The van fishtailed violently across three lanes before smashing into a concrete barrier.
It flipped onto its side and skidded for fifty yards in a shower of brilliant orange sparks.
Sarah slammed on the brakes, stopping their SUV just a few feet away from the wreckage.
Mitchell rushed out of the car, keeping his weapon raised and ready for a fight.
The mercenary in the back was unconscious, pinned beneath a heavy metal toolbox.
Mitchell pried open the twisted side door and peered into the dark cabin.
The driver was dead, having been crushed by the steering column upon impact.
Mitchell desperately searched the back seats for any sign of the little girl.
He found a torn pink jacket and a dropped teddy bear, but Chloe was nowhere to be seen.
A burner phone resting on the dashboard suddenly began to ring loudly.
Mitchell picked up the cracked device and cautiously pressed the answer button.
David's cold, arrogant voice echoed through the speaker.
He mocked the warden for thinking a single decoy van would be enough to stop him.
David revealed that his men had split up at a gas station miles ago.
Chloe was currently secured in a different vehicle heading toward a heavily guarded safehouse.
David stated that he was fully aware Elena's execution had been stayed.
He gave Mitchell a terrifying ultimatum.
The warden had exactly two hours to break Elena out of the maximum-security prison and deliver her to him.
If Mitchell failed to bring his wife to the docks by sunrise, Chloe would be thrown into the ocean.
May you like
The line went dead, leaving Mitchell standing in the cold highway wind.
He turned to Sarah, realizing they had to attempt the most impossible prison break in Texas history.
