Chapter 6 - The Asylum Break-In

Mark stared at the glowing computer monitor, his mind completely fracturing under the weight of the impossible revelation.
His beloved wife, Elena, had been buried in a closed casket five years ago after a horrific, fiery car crash.
If she was truly alive and imprisoned in that asylum, it meant his entire life of mourning had been a meticulously crafted lie.
"Are you absolutely certain this data is accurate, Jax?" Mark asked, his voice shaking with a terrifying mixture of hope and rage.
"The database doesn't lie, Mark; Richard has been keeping her locked away like a ghost," Jax confirmed solemnly.
Mark did not waste another second trying to process the madness; his daughter and potentially his wife were waiting in hell.
He drove a stolen, untraceable car provided by Jax through the desolate, winding mountain roads until he reached the Blackwood Institute.
The facility was a towering, gothic nightmare constructed of black stone, surrounded by towering, electrified fencing.
Armed guards patrolled the perimeter with massive, aggressive attack dogs on heavy chain leashes.
"I am hacking the exterior camera loop right now," Jax's voice crackled softly through the earpiece.
"You have exactly a two-minute window to scale the western wall before the guards circle back."
Mark sprinted across the muddy grounds, using his crowbar to completely shatter the lock on a heavy maintenance gate.
He slipped silently into the shadows of the massive courtyard, moving swiftly toward a ground-floor utility window.
He pried the reinforced window open and dropped quietly into a dark, sterile hospital corridor that smelled strongly of harsh bleach.
"Lily's holding room is located on the third floor, high-security wing," Jax guided him flawlessly through the maze.
Mark successfully bypassed several heavily armed orderlies, hiding inside empty supply closets whenever he heard approaching footsteps.
He finally reached the third floor, locating a heavy steel door with Lily's name crudely written on a temporary medical chart.
His heart hammered with anticipation as he slowly pushed the heavy door open, stepping into the dimly lit room.
A small figure was huddled beneath a thin, white hospital blanket on the lone metal bed.
"Lily, it's Daddy, I am here to take you home," Mark whispered, rushing quickly toward the bed.
He gently pulled the blanket back, preparing to scoop his terrified daughter into his protective arms.
Instead of a child, a pile of medical pillows had been carefully arranged to look exactly like a sleeping body.
Suddenly, the heavy steel door slammed shut behind him, locking automatically with a loud, electronic beep.
The harsh, blinding fluorescent lights of the hospital room flickered on aggressively.
Vanessa stepped out from behind a large medical screen, holding a suppressed pistol aimed perfectly at Mark's chest.
She was no longer wearing her beautiful wedding gown, but a sleek, expensive black business suit.
"You are so wonderfully predictable, Mark," Vanessa sneered, a wicked, triumphant smile spreading across her flawless face.
"I knew you would eventually find this place, which is why I specifically moved Lily out of this room ten minutes ago."
Mark gripped the crowbar tightly, calculating the exact distance between himself and the muzzle of her deadly weapon.
"Where is my daughter, you psychotic monster?" Mark demanded, taking a very slow, calculated step forward.
Vanessa laughed, raising the pistol directly to his eye level with absolute, chilling confidence.

"She is currently being loaded onto a private jet to a country where you will never, ever find her," Vanessa taunted maliciously.
"And unfortunately for you, Mark, your tragic rescue mission ends right here with a bullet to the brain."
