Chapter 7 - The Old Bakery

Volkov smiled wickedly as Mara descended the stairs, tossing the stolen pistol onto the floor.
Evelyn stepped forward and viciously slapped Mara across the face, sending her crashing to the carpet.
"You stupid, arrogant girl," Evelyn spat, grabbing Mara roughly by her hair.
Mara ignored the pain, her eyes desperately locking onto her terrified mother.
"I am here, let her go!" Mara demanded, struggling against Evelyn's brutal grip.
Volkov casually adjusted his expensive silk tie and laughed at her naive demand.
"I never promised to let her go, little baker," Volkov sneered cruelly.
He ordered his heavily armed men to drag both women out to the waiting armored vans.
They drove through the dark, rain-soaked streets of Chicago for what felt like an eternity.
Mara held her mother's trembling hand, silently praying that Dominic would somehow find a way out of the vault.
The vans finally screeched to a halt in a desolate, abandoned industrial district.
They were dragged out of the vehicles and pushed into a massive, dilapidated brick building.
Mara looked up at the faded, peeling sign above the loading dock doors and froze in absolute horror.
It was the original O'Leary Family Bakery warehouse that had been foreclosed on years ago.
"Why did you bring us here?" Mara asked, her voice echoing in the massive, dusty space.
Volkov shoved her violently toward the center of the dark warehouse.
"Because this is where your father stole three million dollars from my cartel," Volkov revealed.
Mara shook her head violently, completely refusing to believe the horrific accusation.
"My father was a good man, he baked bread, he wasn't a criminal!" Mara screamed.
Evelyn laughed from the shadows, kicking an old, rusted flour barrel.
"Your father used this pathetic bakery to launder dirty money for decades, you naive idiot," Evelyn mocked.
Volkov explained that Leo Vance had been working for the Russians the entire time to recover the stolen funds.
They had driven the bakery into bankruptcy to search the property, but they never found the hidden cash.
"Tell me where the money is hidden, Mara, or I start breaking your mother's fingers," Volkov threatened.
Mara panicked, having absolutely no idea where three million dollars could possibly be hidden.
Suddenly, a deafening crash echoed from the roof of the warehouse.

The massive skylight shattered completely, raining sharp glass down upon the Russian mercenaries.
Dominic Castellano dropped through the broken ceiling, dual-wielding submachine guns and wearing a terrifying mask of pure vengeance.
