Chapter 8 - The Escape

Enzo slammed the brakes, sending the truck spinning into the snowy embankment.

He handed Madeline a loaded handgun and a tactical flashlight.

He ordered her to run deep into the treeline while he provided covering fire.

Madeline hesitated, but Enzo screamed at her to go.

She kicked her door open and threw herself into the freezing snow.

Gunfire erupted behind her, echoing like thunder through the silent forest.

She ran until her lungs burned and her legs felt like lead.

The sounds of the brutal firefight eventually faded into the distance.

She stumbled upon an abandoned hunting cabin hidden beneath heavy pine branches.

Using a rock, she smashed the window and climbed inside to escape the lethal cold.

She flicked on the tactical flashlight, sweeping the beam across the dusty room.

The light stopped on a large, horrifying pool of fresh blood.

A man was slumped in a wooden chair, his chest riddled with bullet holes.

Madeline crept closer, her breath catching in her throat.

She instantly recognized the dead man's face from the Chicago tabloids.

It was Serafina DeLuca's powerful, terrifying father.
