Chapter 6 - The Interrogation

Enzo leaned across the seat and kicked the passenger door open.
He did not pull a gun, but his dark eyes left no room for negotiation.
Madeline climbed into the heated cabin, her teeth chattering uncontrollably.
Enzo locked the doors and handed her a thermos of hot tea.
He drove in complete silence for ten agonizing minutes.
Finally, he spoke, his voice surprisingly gentle.
He told her that Dominic had been tearing Chicago apart, burning down rival businesses just to find her.
Madeline scoffed, telling Enzo she knew exactly what Dominic planned to do to her.
She repeated the cruel words she had overheard in the hallway.
Enzo shook his head slowly, pulling the truck onto a secluded dirt road.
He reached into his jacket and pulled out a digital voice recorder.
He pressed play, and Dominic's voice filled the cabin.
The recording continued past the point where Madeline had walked away crying.

Dominic's recorded voice said, "Madeline is a civilian, she will be dealt with quietly by staging her death."
He continued, "If Serafina's father knows she exists, he will kill her, so I have to make her disappear to save her."
