Chapter 10 - The False Haven

Madeline thrashed wildly, but the man easily disarmed her and spun her around.

She found herself staring into the icy blue eyes of Leo DeLuca, Serafina’s older brother.

Leo raised his hands in a peaceful gesture, swearing he was there to help.

He explained that Dominic was the one who orchestrated his father's murder to take over the entire syndicate.

According to Leo, Dominic was using her as the perfect scapegoat to avoid a mafia civil war.

The flashing red and blue lights of police cruisers appeared through the trees.

Leo grabbed her hand, dragging her out the back door just as officers kicked down the front.

They ran through the dense woods until they reached a hidden clearing.

A sleek private jet sat idling on a snowy, makeshift runway.

Leo helped her up the stairs, promising she and the baby would finally be safe in Europe.

Madeline collapsed into a plush leather seat, exhaustion completely overtaking her body.

The jet engines roared to life, lifting them away from the police, the snow, and the nightmare.

She placed a hand on her stomach, weeping tears of profound relief.

They had actually survived the impossible.

The cockpit door swung open, and the pilot stepped out into the cabin to offer them champagne.

Madeline looked up, her blood instantly freezing in her veins.

She gently patted Madeline's pregnant belly and whispered, "Thank you for incubating my husband's heir, we will take it from here."
