Chapter 8 - The Fall

Mia's tiny scream was instantly swallowed by the roaring wind.

Elena let out a guttural shriek of pure agony and lunged toward the edge.

Luca did not even pause to think about his own life.

He sprinted past a stunned Isabella and dove headfirst off the jagged cliff.

The icy, black wind whipped aggressively against his face as he plummeted toward the sea.

He reached his arms out desperately, searching the darkness for a flash of yellow fabric.

His fingers brushed against the child's small arm just before they hit the water.

The impact felt like slamming into a solid wall of freezing concrete.

The violent current immediately pulled them deep beneath the crushing black waves.

Luca wrapped his arms tightly around Mia, shielding her fragile body from the sharp underwater rocks.

His lungs screamed for air as the ocean tried to drag them down into the abyss.

He kicked his legs with every ounce of strength he had left in his body.

They broke the surface for a brief, miraculous second.

Luca gasped a lungful of air before a massive wave crashed over their heads again.

He saw the dim beam of a searchlight sweeping across the turbulent water.

A heavily armored Syndicate patrol boat was cutting through the violent storm directly toward them.

Luca reached up and grabbed the steel mesh of the rescue net dropped by the crew.

He hauled himself and the crying child onto the metal deck, completely exhausted.

He looked up toward the cliff, expecting to see Isabella fleeing into the night.

Instead, the sky above the estate suddenly erupted in a massive, fiery explosion.
