Chapter 5 - The Hostile Takeover
Marco smiled a cold, lifeless smile as he aimed the weapon at Luca's chest.
He explained that he had easily escaped the cellar because half of Luca's guards were on his payroll.
Marco had planned this hostile takeover for over a decade.
He needed Luca to marry the fake Isabella so their combined empires could be legally seized.
Mia buried her face into her mother's chest, shaking with silent terror.
Marco demanded that Luca sign a legally binding transfer of power immediately.
If Luca refused, Marco promised to execute Elena and the child right in front of him.
Luca kept his hands in the air and slowly walked toward the steel table.
He picked up the expensive fountain pen that Marco had laid out for him.
He looked at Elena, silently begging her to trust him for just one more minute.
Luca signed his name across the bottom of the blood-stained contract.
Marco laughed triumphantly and snatched the paper away.
He raised his weapon again, revealing that he had never intended to let them live.
Luca did not flinch or beg for his life.
He simply pressed a hidden button located on the bottom of the fountain pen.
The heavy steel door of the safe room instantly slammed shut and locked magnetically.
A computerized voice announced that the room's oxygen supply was now venting into the atmosphere.

He realized too late that the bunker had just become a sealed tomb for all of them.
