Chapter 3 - The Carriage House Confession

Marco slowly raised his hands as the medical staff dragged a gasping Isabella away.

He tried to play the role of the innocent, concerned friend.

Luca did not say a single word as he ordered his security men to lock Marco in the cellar.

He knew he needed the full truth before he pulled the trigger.

Luca holstered his weapon and walked through the cold rain toward the carriage house.

He knocked once before pushing the wooden door open.

Elena was frantically packing a small, worn suitcase on the narrow bed.

Mia was clutching a stuffed bear and crying softly in the corner.

Elena froze and dropped a stack of folded clothes when she saw Luca standing in the doorway.

She fell to her knees and begged him not to hurt her daughter.

Luca gently lifted her to her feet and handed her the old, yellowed letter.

Elena looked at her mother's handwriting and began to sob uncontrollably.

She confessed that Isabella was actually a lowly maid who had worked for the real Romano family.

Thirteen years ago, Isabella and Marco had set fire to the Romano estate.

They murdered the real heirs and stole the family fortune to merge it with the Moretti empire.

Elena revealed that she was the only actual Romano survivor.

She had been hiding in plain sight as a servant just to keep her daughter alive.

Suddenly, the wooden window of the carriage house shattered inward.

A high-caliber sniper bullet ripped through the air and struck the wall directly above Mia's head.
