Chapter 2 - The Silent Poison

Luca stepped back into the shadows before Marco could see him.

His mind raced as he tried to process the impossible betrayal unfolding in his own home.

Marco had been like a brother to him since they were children.

Now, Marco was secretly meeting with Luca's fiancée in the dark.

Luca waited until the corridor was completely empty before walking to the dining room.

Dinner was served with the usual cold, suffocating elegance that Isabella demanded.

Isabella smiled perfectly and poured a deep red wine into Luca's crystal glass.

Luca remembered the small package Marco had slipped to her earlier.

He casually engaged her in a conversation about their upcoming wedding arrangements.

When Isabella turned her head to yell at a passing servant, Luca swiftly swapped their wine glasses.

Isabella turned back and took a long, elegant sip from the poisoned cup.

Ten minutes later, her perfect smile began to falter and twist.

She dropped her heavy silver fork onto the porcelain plate with a loud clatter.

Her eyes rolled back into her head as she collapsed violently onto the dining table.

Marco rushed into the room immediately, his face pale with genuine panic.

He pushed the estate doctors aside and pulled a small vial of antidote from his own pocket.

Luca watched his best friend administer the cure with desperate, shaking hands.

There was no longer any doubt that they were working together.

Marco looked up and locked eyes with Luca across the room.

Luca pulled his gun from his shoulder holster and aimed it directly at his best friend's chest.
