Chapter 6 - The Traitorous Mentor

Arthur pulled his horse to a sudden halt, staring at his lifelong mentor in absolute disbelief.
Lord Sterling had taught him how to hold a sword and how to lead an army.
Sterling coldly explained that he was the true mastermind behind the entire rebellion.
He had hired Commander Vance and Lady Eleanor to secure the throne for himself.
He wanted the mechanical bomb to destroy the palace so he could easily rule the remaining ashes.
Sterling ordered his heavily armed soldiers to arrest the prince and the craftsman's granddaughter.
Arthur tried to fight back, but there were simply too many swords pointed at them.
They were bound in heavy iron chains and thrown into the back of a prison carriage.
Sterling commanded the carriage driver to take them to the execution grounds immediately.
The wooden carriage rattled violently over the cobblestone roads as they rode into the dark night.
Arthur apologized to Marianne for dragging her into a war that was going to cost her life.
Marianne refused to give up, quietly twisting her wrists to test the strength of the rusted chains.
The carriage suddenly veered completely off the main road, accelerating down a steep, rocky hill.
Arthur heard Sterling's soldiers shouting in confusion as they tried to chase the rogue vehicle.
The carriage driver whipped the horses into a dangerous, blinding frenzy.
He steered the heavy wooden cart directly toward the edge of a massive, roaring river canyon.

Arthur screamed for the driver to stop before they were all killed.
The driver simply turned around, smiled, and drove them straight off the towering cliff.
