Chapter 2 - The Poisoned Blade

Prince Arthur roared in fury and drew his own sword.

He lunged across the room to intercept the traitorous commander.

Steel clashed against steel as the two men fought a desperate, brutal duel.

Marianne did not hesitate or wait for someone to save her.

She grabbed a heavy silver candlestick from a nearby dusty table.

She swung it with all her might, smashing it fiercely against the back of Vance's helmet.

The commander stumbled forward, momentarily blinded by the heavy blow.

Realizing he was outnumbered, Vance turned and sprinted toward the open doorway.

Before crossing the threshold, he quickly threw a hidden dagger from his belt.

The spinning blade struck King Henry squarely in the chest.

The old king collapsed to the stone floor with a sudden, agonizing gasp.

Arthur rushed to his father's side and pulled the dagger from the wound.

He stared in absolute horror at the thick green venom coating the sharp steel.

Henry struggled to breathe, his skin already turning a sickly shade of gray.

He grabbed Arthur's tunic and whispered that the cylinder contained the only cure.

He begged his son to trust the craftsman's granddaughter with their lives.

Arthur quickly grabbed the heavy metallic cylinder from the hidden alcove.

He desperately twisted the top cap to open it and retrieve the antidote.

He looked inside and his heart completely stopped beating.

The cylinder was completely empty.
