Chapter 7 - The Saboteur

The saboteur swung the heavy crowbar at my head without a moment of hesitation.

I ducked just in time, feeling the rush of air as the steel weapon missed me by inches.

The crowbar smashed violently into a metal support beam, sending a shower of bright sparks into the dark space.

I scrambled backward on the narrow catwalk, desperately trying to put some distance between us.

"You cannot hide down here forever!" he yelled over the roaring sound of the plane's engines.

I picked up the heavy wrench I had kicked earlier and held it out defensively.

"Turn the plane back on its normal course!" I demanded.

He laughed a dark, menacing laugh and stepped closer to me.

"I do not take orders from frightened little boys," he sneered.

He lunged forward and swung the crowbar in a wide, sweeping arc aimed at my legs.

I jumped awkwardly, but the cold steel clipped my ankle, sending a sharp jolt of pain up my leg.

I collapsed onto the metal grating, dropping the wrench into the darkness below.

The saboteur stood over me, raising the crowbar high above his head for a final, lethal strike.

Desperation took completely over my mind.

I kicked my good leg upward as hard as I could, striking him squarely in the knee.

He grunted in pain and stumbled backward, dropping the crowbar to clutch his injured leg.

I immediately scrambled to my feet and threw my entire body weight into him.

We both crashed heavily against the main server rack.

I managed to wrap my arm around his neck, pulling him into a tight chokehold.

He thrashed violently, slamming his elbows into my ribs, but I refused to let go.

After what felt like an eternity, his movements finally slowed down.

His body went limp, and he slumped unconscious onto the metal floor.

I stood over him, gasping for air and clutching my aching ribs.

I turned my attention to his rugged laptop, completely unsure of what to do next.

The screen displayed a terrifying graphical interface showing our altitude dropping below fifteen thousand feet.

I reached for the thick bundle of cables connecting his laptop to the server, hoping to disconnect his control.

But as I touched the wires, I noticed something absolutely horrifying attached to the main server box.

It was a block of gray plastic explosive wired directly into the flight computer.

The digital timer on the front of the explosive was actively counting down.

There were exactly ten minutes left until detonation.
