Chapter 10 - The Final Descent

A deafening roar echoed through the cabin as the emergency pressure valves burst open.

A violent gust of hurricane-force wind swept fiercely down the aisle toward the rear of the plane.

Loose magazines, blankets, and unbuckled bags flew backward like projectiles in a tornado.

The sudden blast of air caught the hijackers completely off guard.

Marcus lost his balance and stumbled backward, dropping his plastic blade as he tried to protect his face from the flying debris.

The other two imposters were knocked completely off their feet, tumbling over the passenger seats.

I seized the moment and sprinted down the aisle with blinding speed.

I tackled Marcus to the floor before he could recover his weapon.

Several brave passengers unbuckled their seatbelts and jumped into the aisle to help me hold him down.

The flight attendant rushed forward with a handful of heavy-duty plastic zip ties.

Within seconds, all three hijackers were securely bound and completely neutralized.

I quickly pushed the red lever back up, instantly closing the vents and restoring normal cabin pressure.

I rushed back to my mother's seat and knelt beside her.

She was breathing heavily, but she managed to offer me a weak, incredibly proud smile.

The captain, who had regained consciousness and locked himself back in the cockpit, announced that we were making an emergency landing in Boston.

Twenty minutes later, the wheels touched down smoothly on the runway.

Dozens of armed federal agents and medical personnel swarmed the aircraft the moment the doors opened.

The hijackers and the saboteur were dragged off the plane in heavy iron handcuffs.

Paramedics carefully loaded my mother onto a stretcher, assuring me that she was finally going to be okay.

I held her hand tightly as we rode together in the back of a speeding ambulance toward the city hospital.

We had survived the impossible, and for the first time in months, I felt completely safe.

Later that evening, after my mother was resting comfortably in a private room, I went to our hotel to grab her belongings.

I unzipped my suitcase and reached inside to pull out her favorite sleeping gown.

Sitting directly on top of her folded clothes was a thick black envelope sealed with dark red wax.

I carefully broke the seal and pulled out a single, neatly typed card.

"Did you really think that was the only plane we targeted today, Alex?" the note read.

My blood ran completely cold as the hotel room phone suddenly began to ring.
