Chapter 7 - The Sinking Trap

The icy water quickly rose past my ankles, freezing my skin instantly.

Leo aggressively slammed his shoulder against the heavy steel door, but it did not budge an inch.

Trevor simply laughed through the intercom and walked away, leaving us to drown in the dark.

The water pressure intensified, rapidly filling the enclosed space and rising to our waists.

"We have to short-circuit the electronic locking mechanism on the door," I shouted over the rushing water.

Leo boosted me up onto his shoulders so I could reach the exposed electrical panel near the ceiling.

I ripped the metal casing off with my bare hands, ignoring the sharp pain in my fingertips.

I found the main power relay and aggressively crossed the live wires using the metal handle of my wrench.

A shower of bright blue sparks erupted directly in my face.

The heavy steel door suddenly groaned and slid open just as the water reached our chests.

We practically tumbled out into the narrow hallway, gasping desperately for fresh air.

Leo grabbed a red emergency flare gun from a glass box on the wall and handed it to me.

We cautiously made our way up the stairs toward the top deck of the yacht.

The sound of a helicopter approaching from the distance echoed across the dark ocean.

When I reached the top deck, I froze completely in my tracks.

Leo had been separated from me during the chaotic climb up the stairs.

I found him lying on the wooden deck, bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Trevor was standing at the edge of the helipad, holding Mateo, the ruthless cartel enforcer, entirely at gunpoint.

Trevor had clearly lost his mind and was trying to hijack the approaching helicopter for himself.

He turned his crazy, desperate eyes toward me and aimed his weapon directly at my head.
