Chapter 10 - The False Victory

I stared down the barrel of Whitmore's rifle, my enhanced cognitive processing accelerating my perception of time.
In a fraction of a second, I calculated the exact trajectory of his weapon and the distance to Vance.
I dropped violently to my knees, dodging the sudden burst of gunfire that Whitmore unleashed.
Using my momentum, I swept my leg forcefully across the wet concrete, sweeping Whitmore entirely off his feet.
As he fell backward, I grabbed his tactical vest and hurled him aggressively into a stack of heavy wooden crates.
Vance panicked and desperately tried to raise his handgun, but I closed the distance instantly.
I delivered a crushing palm strike to his throat, causing him to collapse to the floor gasping for air.
I quickly zip-tied their wrists behind their backs, securing both men against the freezing metal pillars of the warehouse.
Reaching into Vance's coat pocket, I extracted his master encrypted command tablet.
I rapidly bypassed his biometric security utilizing the clearance codes I had memorized years ago.
With a few precise keystrokes, I initiated a total server wipe, permanently deleting the entire Project Genesis database and erasing all genetic research files.
The corrupt syndicate had been completely neutralized, and my biological sister was finally safe.
I picked up the little girl, promising her that the nightmare was permanently over and she was going home.
We drove back to the hidden safe house, a profound sense of ultimate victory and relief washing over my exhausted body.
I pushed open the heavy wooden door of the cabin, eager to tell my grandfather that we were finally free.
The medical cot in the corner of the room was completely empty, and the heart monitor was loudly flatlining on the dusty floor.
My secure encrypted phone suddenly vibrated with an incoming, highly classified video call.
I answered it with trembling hands, only to see my grandfather sitting in a luxurious, high-tech executive office, wearing a perfectly tailored black suit.

"Thank you for efficiently eliminating all of my annoying rivals tonight, Claire," he smiled coldly, pressing a shiny red button on his massive oak desk.
"Now that the board is finally clear, the real game begins."
