Chapter 8 - The Creditors Arrive

Glass rained down across the expensive carpet as heavily armed federal agents poured into the boardroom.

Patricia screamed, diving under the mahogany table for cover.

Andrew jumped out of my executive chair, his hands raised high in the air.

"FBI, nobody make a single move!" the lead agent roared, sweeping the room with an assault rifle.

My board of directors hit the floor in sheer terror.

I remained standing perfectly still, watching my husband's empire of lies collapse in real time.

Marcus slowly placed his hands on his head, stepping away from Andrew.

The lead agent marched directly up to Andrew and slammed him face-first onto the table.

"Andrew Vance, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, identity theft, and conspiracy to commit money laundering," the agent announced.

"I did not do anything, my wife set me up!" Andrew cried out, his voice cracking with panic.

The agent pulled a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt and locked them onto Andrew's wrists.

"We have a full confession from Elena Rostova detailing your involvement with the Jalisco syndicate," the agent replied.

Patricia crawled out from under the table, her hair disheveled and her expensive dress ruined by shattered glass.

"You cannot arrest my son, he comes from a respectable family!" Patricia shrieked.

The lead agent looked at Patricia with sheer disgust.

"Your family accounts were completely drained an hour ago by the cartel, ma'am," the agent stated bluntly.

"You are absolutely broke."

Patricia gasped, clutching her chest as if she had been physically struck.

The FBI began hauling Andrew and his brothers out of the boardroom in handcuffs.

Andrew twisted around, looking at me with wild, desperate eyes.

"Lauren, you have to help me, they are going to kill me in prison!" he begged.

I walked over to the table and picked up the forged document he had tried to use to steal my company.

I ripped it perfectly in half and let the pieces flutter to the floor.

"Seats at the head table are reserved for people who do not commit federal treason," I told him coldly.

The agents dragged him through the broken doors, his pathetic screams echoing down the hallway.

I turned to Marcus, expecting him to be arrested next.

Instead, Marcus lowered his hands and adjusted his tie with a calm smile.

May you like

"That was entirely too close for comfort, Boss," Marcus whispered.

He had never betrayed me.
