Chapter 9 - The Final Standoff

Marcus leaned heavily against the doorframe, his white shirt heavily stained with blood from his shoulder wound.

He kept the pistol aimed directly at Julian, who was writhing in agony on the marble floor.

The sound of approaching police sirens wailed loudly in the distance, getting closer by the second.

Vanessa realized her only chance of survival was to completely throw Julian under the bus.

She reached into her cream coat, pulled out a small, silver handgun, and pointed it directly at Julian's head.

"He forced me to do all of it!" Vanessa screamed desperately to the security guards and Marcus.

"He said he would kill my family if I did not help him steal his wife's fortune!"

Julian stared up at his mistress in absolute disbelief, betrayed by the very woman he had chosen over me.

Sarah, who was cowering under the bank manager's desk, suddenly jumped up and tried to run for the exit.

Marcus quickly shifted his aim and fired a warning shot directly into the ceiling, stopping Sarah in her tracks.

"Nobody is leaving this room until the police arrive," Marcus declared with grim authority.

Vanessa’s hand was shaking violently as she kept her weapon trained on the man she had kissed at the airport just hours ago.

"Put the gun down, Vanessa," I ordered her calmly, finally catching my breath.

"The federal authorities already have all of your communications on the laptop Sarah so kindly brought to the bank."

I pointed to the leather bag resting on the desk, which contained the undeniable proof of her entire conspiracy.

Vanessa realized she was completely cornered and slowly lowered her weapon to the floor.

Dozens of heavily armed police officers and federal agents burst through the bank doors, swarming the suite.

They immediately kicked Vanessa's gun away and slammed her forcefully against the glass wall to handcuff her.

Two officers grabbed Sarah, ignoring her pathetic, sobbing pleas for mercy and forgiveness.

Paramedics rushed in to tend to Julian's gunshot wound before aggressively shackling him to a stretcher.

As they wheeled my treacherous husband out of the bank, he looked at me with pure, unadulterated hatred.

"You took everything from me!" Julian screamed, spit flying from his mouth.

I walked right up to the stretcher and looked down at the pathetic, broken man who thought he could destroy me.

"No, Julian," I said softly, making sure he heard every single word.

"You gave it all to me the moment you signed those fraudulent documents."

The paramedics pushed him out into the waiting ambulance, permanently removing him from my life.

The lead federal agent approached me, holstered his weapon, and offered me a small, respectful smile.

"Your countermove was brilliantly executed, ma'am," the agent praised, taking possession of the laptop.

"The asset freeze automatically transferred full legal ownership of his entire company directly into your name as restitution."
