Chapter 7 - The Desperate Chase

I left Marcus waiting for the paramedics and sprinted down the emergency stairwell of the building.

The streets were still chaotic from the fire alarm evacuation, giving me the perfect cover to escape the police.

I spotted a courier motorcycle idling near the curb while the driver delivered a package.

I did not have time to think about the legal consequences of stealing a vehicle.

I jumped onto the heavy motorcycle, kicked it into gear, and sped away from the law firm.

The cold wind whipped through my hair as I wove dangerously through the dense Denver morning traffic.

The downtown branch of the international bank was exactly ten blocks away, but every second felt like a lifetime.

If Julian and Vanessa finalized the offshore wire transfer, the money would become completely untraceable.

I pulled the motorcycle onto the sidewalk in front of the massive glass banking building and leaped off.

I burst through the revolving doors, ignoring the shocked shouts of the security guards stationed in the lobby.

I spotted Julian, Vanessa, and Sarah sitting inside a private, glass-walled executive banking suite.

The bank manager was currently typing the final authorization codes into his computer terminal.

I ran across the marble floor and threw my entire body weight against the heavy glass door of the suite.

The door flew open, hitting the wall with a deafening crash that stopped the manager's fingers instantly.

Julian jumped out of his leather chair, his face turning pale with absolute shock.

"Do not authorize that transfer!" I screamed at the bank manager, pointing a shaking finger at Julian.

"These people are committing massive corporate fraud, and those funds are entirely stolen."

Vanessa stood up calmly, adjusting her elegant cream coat with a perfectly practiced smile.

"Security, please remove this unstable woman," Vanessa ordered, playing the role of a concerned executive flawlessly.

"She has been stalking our CEO all morning and is clearly having a violent mental breakdown."

Two massive bank security guards grabbed my arms from behind, trying to drag me out of the suite.

Julian turned back to the manager and slammed his hands aggressively onto the desk.

"Push the transfer through right now, or I will move my entire corporate portfolio to another bank!" Julian roared.

The intimidated manager nervously clicked his computer mouse, and a loud chime echoed from the speakers.

The digital screen on the wall changed to a bright green color, displaying the words "TRANSFER COMPLETE."

Sarah smiled wickedly and held up the leather bag containing the laptop she had stolen from me.

"You lose," Sarah mouthed silently as the guards dragged me backward into the lobby.

Julian laughed out loud, wrapping his arm around Vanessa's waist in absolute triumph.

They had successfully stolen my money, my father's house, and completely destroyed my entire life.

May you like

As the security guards pushed me out the front doors of the bank, the green screen on the manager's wall suddenly flashed violent red.

The word "FUNDS SEIZED" began blinking rapidly across every single monitor in the banking suite.
